BioGas-to-Energy (BGTE) Facility Design
BGTE facility design has been ESI’s primary engineering focus since its founding. Our experience in the BGTE industry includes both digester and landfill gas utilizing a variety of prime movers including:

Landfill Gas (LFG) Collection and Control System Design (GCCS)
ESI’s engineers have been involved in Landfill GCCS design since the early 1990s. Our engineers have developed collection systems at landfills large and small, and in some of the most regulated areas of the country. Our team’s experience in operating collection systems continues to improve our design. Furthermore, with today’s increasing need for accurate LFG flow control, ESI has contributed GCCS design advancements including development of the Flo-Wing Meter® and PolyGate® Valve.
BioGas Pretreatment Systems
ESI’s extensive experience with design and equipment selection of high and low level biogas pretreatment systems provides for seamless integration between LFG collection systems and LFG utilization facilities. ESI’s experience in design of biogas pretreatment systems includes: blower/compression skid design, gas dehydration systems, flare integration, H2S removal systems, Siloxane removal systems, and utilization facility integration with the pretreatment system.
Thermal Generation Facility Design (Biomass, Biogas, and Heat Recovery)
ESI’s engineering team is becoming increasingly involved in development of thermal generation facility design including woody biomass utilization projects, district heating distribution systems, and generator heat recovery systems.
Medium-BTU and High-BTU Systems
ESI provides full engineering design, construction oversight, electrical controls integration, and facility startup for Medium and High BTU Systems. Our engineers have been involved in projects that utilize medium BTU biogas direct use, CNG vehicle fuel conversion (fast fill and slow fill), and High BTU renewable natural gas conversion. ESI’s engineering expertise in High BTU cleanup systems includes CO2 membrane separation, pressure swing absorption, thermal oxidation, high pressure gas compression, gas refrigeration, N2/O2 removal, siloxane removal, and H2S removal.
Environmental Compliance Management Services
ESI provides environmental compliance consulting services for power facilities and Title V landfills. ESI’s compliance engineers are familiar with federal and state regulations in some of the most difficult air districts in the nation. ESI is versed in Title V permitting and reporting, greenhouse gas reporting and verification, federal and state compliance plan development, carbon credit verification, and existing facility compliance auditing.
